I will be honest with you – I almost did not go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Affiliate World<\/a> is not exactly my kind of event. I tend to prefer smaller, more focused conferences where you can actually have a real conversation without shouting over a crowd. Big expos with hundreds of booths and thousands of people\u2026 they are impressive, but they are not always where the magic happens for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So why did I end up in Budapest?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simple. It was close. A short direct flight from Romania, no long layovers, no full travel day. When a conference is basically next door, the barrier drops. And I am glad it did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Honest Truth About Big Affiliate Conferences<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before I get into what made Budapest great, I want to say something that I think a lot of people in this industry think but do not always say out loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ticket prices are too high for affiliates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are talking more than $1,000 per ticket. Add a flight, a few nights of accommodation, food, and you are looking at a serious investment. For a business, that is manageable. For an individual affiliate – especially someone who is still growing – it is a real barrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the thing is that these conferences need affiliates. Businesses come because affiliates are there. Networks come because affiliates are there. Traffic sources come because affiliates are there. Affiliates are the engine of this whole ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if the ticket prices push affiliates out, what are you left with? A lot of businesses talking to other businesses. Which is fine, but it is not what makes these events electric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think the organizers of big conferences like Affiliate World need to think harder about this. Bring the affiliates in. Make it accessible for them. Because without them, the energy changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I say this not to criticize, but because I genuinely believe better access for affiliates makes these events better for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Saved Budapest: The Side Events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Okay. Now for the good part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because here is what I noticed in Budapest, and what I have been hearing from more and more people in our industry: the side events are becoming the real conference.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I heard multiple people say they came only for the side events. They skipped the main floor entirely and just showed up for the networking dinners, rooftop parties, and brand-hosted evenings. I completely understand why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let me walk you through the ones I attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TTMeetup: The Energy Before the Conference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I had almost forgotten about TTMeetup<\/a> events. I went to one a long time ago and it had not stayed in my memory. But this one – held the day before the main conference – reminded me why these pre-conference meetups are so valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The energy the day before a conference is different. People have just arrived. They are not yet tired from two days on the floor. They are excited, open, ready to talk. There is no agenda yet. No sessions to rush to. No booths to man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was relaxed. People were genuinely there to do business and make connections. That combination – relaxed atmosphere plus business energy – is rare and it is exactly what you want from an event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, and I met the girls from BuyGoods there. My fellow Romanians! Always a joy. There is something special about running into people from home at an international conference – it feels like a small world in the best possible way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ClickBank: Rooftop, Good Food, Great People<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

ClickBank <\/a>organized one of the evening events and it was exactly what a side event should be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good food. Nice location. And the right mix of people – advertisers, publishers, partners, all in one room without the pressure of a booth or a sales pitch hanging over every conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ClickBank has a way of doing this. Their rooftop events have a reputation for a reason. You can see that they actually think about who is in the room and why. They want their partners to connect with each other, not just with ClickBank. That makes a real difference to the atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are a ClickBank affiliate or vendor, these events are worth attending just to put faces to names and have the kind of conversations that do not happen over email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobidea: Live Music, Saxophone, and a Little World Cup on the Side<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mobidea <\/a>hosted an event on the first day of the conference and it had a completely different energy from the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live music. A saxophone. Dancing. And at some point, a group of people huddled around a screen watching the World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will be honest – the networking was not really possible here. It was crowded and loud, which means deep conversations were off the table. But sometimes that is exactly what you need. Not every event has to be about exchanging business cards and pitching your product. Sometimes you just need to move, relax, and enjoy the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a long travel day and the first day of events, an evening like this is actually a gift. It sets the mood for the rest of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

White Sensation Party: My Favorite Night in Budapest<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

AW Summit <\/a>organized their traditional White Sensation party and I loved it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love dancing. I will not pretend otherwise. But it was not just the music and the dancing that made this night special. It was the atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is something about this industry that I keep coming back to: how young everything feels.<\/strong> Not just the people – though yes, our industry skews young – but the energy. The openness. The fact that you can walk up to someone you have never met, start a conversation, and by the end of the night you have made a real friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is not stiff corporate networking. Nobody is standing in a corner holding a drink waiting to be approached by the right person. People are genuinely there to connect, to have fun, to dance, to talk. And this comes from an introvert like me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I find that really refreshing. It is one of the things that keeps me coming to these events even when I am not sure I will get much from the main conference itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AWSummit Rooftop Event: No Entry Fee, Great Energy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

AW Summit<\/strong> also co-organized another rooftop event – and with a detail I really appreciated: no entry fee.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you remove the barrier to entry, the room changes. More affiliates show up. More variety in who you meet. The conversations are different when people are not there because they paid a premium to be in that specific room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great location, good food, nice drinks, and most importantly – the right mix of people. Affiliates and businesses together, in a relaxed setting where deals get made without anyone trying too hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the formula. I keep seeing it work at every good side event I attend: good location, good food, relaxed atmosphere, no pressure. That is it. That is the whole recipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DFO Performance: A Familiar Face at Every Big Conference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

DFO Performance had an event in Budapest too. If you follow the affiliate conference circuit, you probably already know their events – they show up at almost every major conference, including Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So\u2026 Was Affiliate World Budapest Worth It?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Yes. But probably not for the reason the organizers would like to hear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The side events were worth it. Every single one I attended gave me something – a new connection, a real conversation, a fun evening, a reminder of why I love this industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main conference? I will leave that assessment to others. I did not spend time on the main floor and I do not think I missed much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I know for sure is this: the side events at Affiliate World Budapest <\/a>were excellent. ClickBank, AWSummit, TTMeetup – all of them did a great job of creating the conditions for real connection. Good location, good food, relaxed atmosphere, the right people. Simple formula. Hard to get wrong when you care enough to do it properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will I Go to Another Affiliate World Event? Probably. But if I am being honest – it would be mostly for the side events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
